Treasurer Vacancy

We are looking for a trustee and board member to supervise our finances.
The treasurer oversees our financial performance, ensuring that the board are aware of all key financial risks to the organisation.
Applicants will need experience of budgeting, management accounts and the preparation of financial proposals to grant funders, have an accountancy background and preferably have experience of working at a senior level on a committee or board.

Skills & Experience:

• Understanding of the legal responsibilities of being a Trustee and, ideally, previous experience in a similar role
• An understanding of key aspects of governance, including (but not limited to) the development of strategic plans, financial probity/transparency, risk management and the implications of conflicts of interest
• Qualified accountant
• Able to present financial information to non-financial colleagues in an appropriate manner
• Able to analyse & interpret financial statements and information, to advise staff and trustees
• A knowledge of Charity SORP is desirable

Expectations of the role:

• Review monthly management accounts with the CEO
• Assist in the preparation of the Trustees Report to be included with the annual accounts
• Lead the Board of Trustees on development as necessary of the policy on Reserves and, working closely with the CEO, advise the Board on cash management and any future cash shortfall so that timely action can be taken to match income with costs
• Review and approve the annual accounts which are prepared by an external accountant
• Work with other Trustees to ensure that the Charity complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
• Work with other Trustees to ensure the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
• Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
• Understanding and acceptance of the legal responsibilities of being a charity trustee
